To develop, maintain and share historic central school as a cultural and heritage center for the Lake City community.
Historic Central School is the repository for the back issues of the Lake City Graphic from its inception. Back issues of newspapers from neighboring towns are also available. Because of the archival nature of these newspapers, access is limited to authorized personnel; however, as time permits, research may be done for you for a donation.
One room is set up as a kindergarten classroom, assembled under the direction of Hester Crosswait who taught in that room for a number of years.
This website was made possible as part of a Calhoun County Community Foundation grant.
Historic Central School is available by reservation for reunions, receptions and other activities. The alumni room provides seating for 40 people with chairs and folding tables. A "wet bar" includes a sink and range top and coffee makers are available. Food may also be catered in using your own caterer.
The building is normally open weekdays from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. Visits and tours at other times may be arranged by appointment. We are now handicapped accessible.
